Truly Gritty, Truly Great

The Verdict: GO SEE!

REVIEW:
True Grit is wonderful for any Western film fan with it's great script and directing (the acclaimed Coen Brothers, Fargo, No Country for Old Men) and great cast (Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld). This remake of the 1969 John Wayne classic, is about a teenage girl who hires a marshal to hunt down and bring her father's killer to justice. The teenage girl, is a feisty, outspoken, precocious girl and played with amazing talent by Steinfeld. Bridges plays the marshal, a drunkard with "true grit", Damon is his hate-able yet loveable Texas Ranger partner and Brolin is the bad guy murderer--- played strongly by all. True Grit isn't just a shoot-em-up Western--- it has a story with some heart--- thanks to the female presence of Steinfeld's character. The necessary shoot out scenes are good and pleasing. The ending is surprising for how a typical Western usually ends, even sad, but worthy. True Grit is a remarkable Western and fans of the overlooked genre will highly enjoy!
