What's Playing? 12/24 Weekend

This weekend in theatres is good looking thanks to the lone movie that holds the most excitement: the western True Grit, a remake, with the great cast of Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
Out of the two comedies opening: the third installment of the De Niro vs. Stiller or Meet the Parents series--- Little Fockers looks funny, but Gulliver's Travels (unnecessarily in 3-D)--- Jack Black's comic spin on the classic novel of the same title, doesn't look funny at all. 
The drama Country Strong, with a singing Gwyneth Paltrow looks promising but boring.
Somewhere, a father-daughter story, directed by Sophia Coppola, looks sweet.
The animated adult friendly The Illusionist about a magician is a very imaginative effort.

An actor with a bad boy reputation, reunites with his estranged pre-teen daughter.


Why See It?
-You love the rare, father-daughter plotted films.
-You're a fan of Sophia Coppola's work.

 It may turn out to be too sappy by the end.
